Our public events may have been canceled due to Covid-19, but that can't stop us from dancing our way to the polls!
Starting September 9th, we’ll be launching 2 short videos a week, for 10 weeks. Each video will showcase choreographers offering dance pieces from the past and present. Kicking off, Alicia and Keelan use the power of dance to express the urgency of voting, as well as other concerns, through their pieces Sudden Vote and K E E L A N: A Visual Portrait of a Dancer, respectively.

This free interactive event invites guests from all fifty states to dance together in the virtual space and kicks off Luna's Voting Writes Project, a two-month interdisciplinary arts event featuring commissioned films, plays, songs, and interactive experiences.

Attendees at 50 States/50 Days are invited to represent their states through costumes, create Zoom backgrounds that highlight why voting matters to them, or simply come as they are and prepare to dance their way to the polls. This opportunity for national social connection will also feature updates on voting procedures, including how to check voter registration and key dates for voting in every state.

Presented by LUNA STAGE in collaboration with Dance the Vote and The Andrew Goodman Foundation.

A Virtual Dance Class

September 26, 2020

1:00 PM CT

We’re dancing our way to the polls! Join Dance the Vote and the Ashleyliane Dance Company as they bring together the power of dance and the power of voting in a virtual dance class that you can do from home! You’ll discover the history of some popular dances, such as the wobble and the electric slide, then learn how to do them yourself. You’ll also get the chance to do some freestyle moves and get information about voting along the way! This program is fun for all ages.

This program is associated with Beyond the Ballot: St. Louis and Suffrage, presented by Wells Fargo. Education sponsorship provided by Emerson.

'DANCE THE VOTE provides an opportunity to showcase the skills of St. Louis choreographers and dancers in service of community involvement. We are excited to create pieces tied to the history of voting to remind the community how important it is to exercise this fundamental right,” Ashley Tate, Artistic Director of Ashleyliane Dance Company, co-chair Dance the Vote.

YOU can participate in Dance the Vote. More information and submission form can be found here.
